Prepare for one of the hottest jobs around. Learn to diagnose, repair and perform maintenance on automobiles and light trucks. As an Automotive Technician, you will need the skills to accurately diagnose the source of a problem and demonstrate quality workmanship. If you have an interest in a particular area, larger repair shops often employ specialized mechanics. Areas of specialization include air conditioning, driveability/emissions, front-end, radiator, transmission and heavy-line mechanics. Motorcycle and diesel running vehicles require specialized training. You can find employment in car dealerships, independent garages, private companies, government agencies, or you can choose self-employment.

In Arizona, Automotive Technician positions are expected to increase 10% or more in the next 10 years. Automotive Technicians earn an average of $8.44 to $25.12 an hour for
an average salary of $17,555 to $52,250 a year.
Accreditation
Automotive Technology program course offerings are designed to prepare individuals to participate in the national certification program, National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE). Individuals may be certified in all areas.
Transferability
Coursework has been generally transferable to Northern Arizona University's Department of Industrial Education and Weber State University's, Automotive Service Management program. The student should consult with the school and program to which he or she plans to transfer as early as possible.
